Alzheimer’s Disease: Precious Time

Memory Loss in Alzheimer’s is progressive.

In the midst of the angst that accompanies the wrecked schedules (and sometimes wrecked lives) of caregivers, it is easy to become overwhelmed by stress and forget that this time is precious.  Sure, dad might not be the same guy he always was.  His moods are aggravating and his repetitive questions are sometimes enough to make you want to yell from a mountain.  You don’t like him.  And worse, you don’t like you.   The guilt over your own feelings of helplessness-fury-incovenience- fear-whits end may even leave you thinking something much worse would be better.  But these are precious moments.  Precious time that will most certainly be gone.  Time to love, laugh, cry together.  Time to remember to the extent possible the good times.  Time to forgive the bad times.  Time.  Precious time.
