Symptoms of Depression

How many of the symptoms of depression apply to you?

1. I feel sad or irritable.

2. I have lost interest in activities I used to enjoy.

3. I am eating more or less than I used to and have gained or lost weight.

4. I am sleeping much more or less than I used to.

5. I have no energy and feel tired often.

6. I am anxious a lot.

7. I feel worthless.

8. I have trouble concentrating or making decisions.

9. I have thoughts about suicide.

10. I feel hopeless.

11. I have lost interest in sex- not even thinking about it.

12. I have general aches and pains.

If you checked five or more of the boxes, including at least one of the first two questions, you may be experiencing clinical depression.

Medications can help you feel better. Seek the advise of a doctor!

If you checked one of the first two boxes, and a few other boxes, ask yourself this:

Do you experience these things more often than not, and has this been the case for at least two years? If so, you may have a mild form of depression that is not disabling, but can keep you from fully enjoying your life.

Science has made tremendous advanced with medications that can help.

If neither of the above applies, and you are just “generally down” taking steps like improving your nutrition, finding purpose and meaning, journaling, making friends, and putting some laughter into your life can help.
