Diabetes and Memory Loss
Scientists have discovered a clear link between diabetes and Alzheimer’s Disease, which leads to memory loss, confusion and dementia. Studies indicate that 25-35% of all adults over age 60 have insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is the underlying pathology in virtually all of the risk factors associated with aging: Alzheimer’s Disease, inflammation, vascular problems, and even small blood vessel strokes. The physiological changes associated with insulin-resistance and diabetes often begin in mid-life as sedentary lifestyle and obesity set in.
We are pleased to credit the Alzheimer’s Disease Education and Referral Center, a service of the National Institute on Aging, for the following outstanding video that explains the connection between Insulin and Alzheimer’s. The National Institute on Aging/NIH collaborated with HBO Documentary Films to produce this video as a part of an Emmy Award winning public health series. This video will make you re-think the importance of lifestyle to avoid health conditions that will make you susceptible to the memory loss and confusion associated with Alzheimer’s Disease. Watch it now, learn, and make a plan to protect your brain power and stop preventable memory loss.
